Heroes Re-Watch: “One Giant Leap”
‘One Giant Leap’ is, in my opinion, without doubt a better episode than ‘Don’t Look Back’, and it’s moments like this which make it so appealing:
There’s Peter, feeling good about himself - and why not, he can fly and he’s got a fairly hot babe digging him. So he’s just told this ‘babe’ that he fell in love with her the moment he laid eye’s on her..and what does Nathan go and do..yup, he announces to the world that Peter is suicidal! Erm..nice one bro! Poor Peter..I guess no-one said being a Petrelli was easy..
Speaking of Simone (who is the ‘babe’ in the above paragraph in case anyone is wondering), is it just me who can’t stand this woman!? She knows the pain and suffering that Isaac is going through and yet she let’s him stew and not only flirts with Peter, but kisses him (and that’s just the start). Poor Isaac..his love is so wasted on her, in my humble opinion.

Speaking of love, it was quite funny seeing Matt getting effectively booted out of his own home by his wife. But what I don’t understand, is why instead of using his powers to cheat at poker or something fun (like Hiro and Ando), he goes to a bars, reads the minds of the drunk and raises glasses to fellow losers? Whats up with that Matt(!?)..it’s not like you’re not above using your powers for personal gain.
Something else which kinda bugged me about this episode (in retrospect), was his encounter with Sylar. Now after he put several bullets in Mr. Elusive, why did the creators make it look as if Sylar escaped by flight or some-kind of Spiderman climbing ability, when we later (in the series) see no other reference to ‘this’ particular ability - including in situations where it would be advantageous for him to use it? I mean, Matt turned his head for a second and before we know it Sylar’s scaled a building and disappeared. It would seem to me that they either didn’t exactly ‘know’ what to make Sylar or they changed his story arc somewhat, because there are also more ‘continuity’ issues which later appear.
Speaking of continuity, they definitely changed their plan for DL’s mom - in this episode they built her up with strong screen direction which appeared to be heading somewhere only to never again come back to her. Unless we catch-up with her in Season 2, of course).
I think all this indicates that once they realised how big the show actually was, they altered things slightly (from around episode 6 or 7 i’d say).

I’m being a bit critical here, but I actually did enjoy this episode. One of my favourite parts was Mohinder and Eden coming across Sylar’s hidden room, which had ‘Forgive Me Father’ etc written all over the walls. Question - were they planning on making Sylar a religious man? I only ask because we see little indication of religion or faith in Sylar in the whole of Season 1. Though I should point out that his mother was religious, so perhaps this was more an indication of him letting go of her hold on him and the values that ’she’ had instilled in him. I guess this could be our first foreshadowed pointer of ‘Gabriel Grey’ becoming ‘Sylar’. Or, it’s another continuity error ;)

I can’t end without saying how Hot Eden is. Yes, this deserves a paragraph all of it’s own :)
I realise that I’ve hardly mentioned Hiro and Ando in any of my re-watch items so far, but i’ll address that by saying how utterly fantastic the scene where he stopped time to save the little girl was! Man, that is what I’m talking about - it was the sort of scene that makes Heroes so darn cool. It was also great seeing Ando begin to believe in Hiro’s ’space-time continuum’ bending lark. Always nice to see a cynic believe.

I’m not Claire’s biggest fan, but I so wanted her to kick that Brody’s butt! What a SCUM BAG he is! The thing is his nice guy act was so convincing, poor Claire - thank goodness she can regenerate though, because she doesn’t half get killed alot all of a sudden (and that’s not including her intentional suicide leaps!). I have to give it to Hayden, her episode stealing “Holy Shii..” was just classic..bravo bravo!

I remember my first time on this website. My friend and I were looking for something totally new, something we haven’t read or heard about. We were so tired of college, and didn’t have too much time to go out. And we found this site, and now we come ever day to read some cool information or to discuss something with other people. It’s interesting to hear different points of view!
