Nichols is ‘Nana’, Pressure at the Top & Ali Larter Interview

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

A spokesperson for NBC has confirmed that former Startrek icon, Nichelle Nichols, will play ‘Nana’ – the New Orleans-based grandmother of fellow newbie, Monica (played by Dana Davis). We first brought you the news of Nichelle Nichols arrival yesterday.

Tim Kring and friends have also be talking about the pressure that the show is under to exceed expectations in Season 2.

“It’s pressure to keep it going,” Kring says. “This particular show has become a show defined by its ability to defy your expectations. People want that experience of watching the show and not knowing where it’s going to take them.”

I agree with that – Heroes is the type of show that has those impact moments each episode. It’s going to be interesting to see whether they can keep it as fresh and exciting.

Heroes DVD

Ben Silverman, NBC Co-Chairman, has also been speaking about extending the Heroes brand and reaching new viewers. One of the way they hope to achieve this is through the release of the Season 1 DVD (which goes on sale from August 28th – You can buy it through Heroes-Hype ;)).

The goal: gain viewers who haven’t watched and please fans with extra content.

“There’s like 50 extended and deleted scenes,” says Masi Oka, who plays Hiro. “You get to see the behind-the-scenes things, the making of, Tim Kring’s commentary on the 72-minute pilot that we premiered at Comic-Con.” (NBC aired a shorter version.)

I think just about everyone is looking forward to the DVD – personally I can’t wait for Kring’s commentary! Read more here.

Ali Larter

Craveonlinehave an excellent interview with Ali Larter, who plays Nikki/Jessica. One of the things she reveals is that Season 2 will see the merging of her two alter-egos

They’re coming into one character. It’s only Nikki and I think the writers are so smart on this show that they really looked at what worked and what didn’t. To be able to focus on the one character is I think going to be the best move.

It will be interesting to see how they do this. Personally I loved how Ali switched between the 2 characters – perhaps they’ll still do this but using a slightly ‘tighter’, more contained formula?

Hayden’s Hopes & Star Makes Trek to Join Heroes

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

HaydenThere’s a great interview over at comicbookresources.com, with Hayden Panettiere, where reveals some insight into what her character has in store for season 2. In particular she comments on her own personal hopes for ‘Claire’ and how the character has evolved.

As to how Claire has changed between Season One and Two, Panettiere said, “I think she really grew up. If you guys don’t have kids or haven’t noticed, teenagers are selfish, and I will vouch for that. She wanted what any teenager would want, she wanted to be normal, she wanted to be popular, she wanted to date the quarterback of the football team. And over time she realized that by dismissing her power like that, that she was risking a lot of people’s lives, and that there was so much more she could do if she just came to terms with that. And she just really evolved, really grew up, learned to stand her own and stick up for herself. She matured, and hopefully she’ll keep doing that.”

It’s a great interview, you can read the rest of it here

In other news Syfy Portal report that Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhura in Startrek, will be a recurring character for about 5 to 6 episodes in Season 2 of Heroes.

This all explains what Tim King, the program’s creator and executive producer, meant when he recently told E! Online he was looking “for another face that will have a very similar impact” on fans as Takei’s casting did.
