Heroes Rides Crest of a Wave

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Tim KringHeroes creator Tim Kring and actor Masi Oka(Hiro Nakamura) have vowed that season 2 of Heroes will continue to deliver the suprises that it was famed for in it’s debut season. Kring feels that the show can continue to ride the wave of acclaim that it has garnished saying:

“It’s not pressure to top it, it’s pressure to keep it going. A show like this or this particular show has been defined by its ability to defy your expectations. People want to watch it because they don’t know where it is going to take them. We have extraordinary staff and cast,” said Kring. “We are on a big roll right now.”

Kring also reveals how the character of Hiro nearly never made the show:

“When I read the first draft of the script, the character (Hiro) didn’t actually exist. There were a preponderance of characters that felt these powers were an affliction. The character was created to lighten up the initial script,”

I for one am glad that Hiro made the show. He’s given the show that light and shade that is like the cherry on the icing of a big fat cake. Seriously though, he’s been a great character and it’s strange how sometimes the most important characters are stumbled upon. It was similar to Jack in Lost, where his character was supposed to die in the Pilot – 3 seasons later and he’s still there providing the much needed ying to Jack and Ben’s yang. I wonder whether the character of Kensei will also prove to be an unplanned (if I can say that) success..
