“Out of Time” Recap & Review

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Here’s a recap and review of what happened in last nights episode of Heroes. First I thought I’d share Kristin’s (E!Online) thoughts with you:

—————-

WHAT WE LEARNED

Bennet’s Got Problems:  This was not a good week to be Noah Bennet. His daughter’s dating one of his former victims, he left fingerprints all over the Ukraine, Mohinder’s gone AWOL, and he apparently gets shot through the eyeball in the not-too-distant future. Can Clairebear save her daddy? And/or 93 percent of the human race? Or will the preminition painting of his death come true? I have a bad feeling…

Holy Muscle Definition, Batman!  We learned, first and foremost, that the only thing hotter than shirtless Peter being tortured is shirtless Peter being hosed down. Hot da-yamn. Also, did anyone else tend to believe Mama Petrelli when she said Peter was the most powerful of them all? I think the woman knows of what she speaks…

Character Growth:  So, it seems, Matt Parkman inherited his father’s abilities wholesale, which is somewhat different than the genetic downloads we’ve seen in the past. No matter, as it stands now, Matt has outgrown his father and overthrown him, which any bard will tell you is an essential part of the hero’s journey. Hopefully this we’ll see much more from Parkman in episodes to come. Grunny, bless is heart, joins Adrian Pasdar and Jack Coleman and Jimmy-Jean Louis as one of the strong and sensible characters on this show in whom it is easy to put faith. More, please.

Kensei Is an Immortal! Can there be only one? As we teased previously, Kensei is alive and well, 400 years in the future. Adam Monroe is very very old, and very very mean. And I am very very much loving David Anders as the villain we so love him to play! I mean, come on, Linderman was his flunky?! That’s awesome! Delving into the Generations is definitely a worthwhile pursuit, for us as viewers and for the characters in the show.

———-

OK, now MY turn: Personally I thought it was a good episode..far..FAR from great. I can only be honest, I won’t sell you bull because what’s the point? I’m just glad the TERRIBLE Hiro/Kensei/Princess whatsherface storyline appears to be over..that was one BIG mistake..or at least it just didn’t work out how the writers envisaged it would. It was clumsy, over-stretched, unbelievable (in a bad way) and silly. HOWEVER, it was perhaps a means to an end, because now that we know that Adam Munroe is Kensei the ridiculous feudal Japan storyline has actually, by hook or by crook, set-up a devilishly tasty premise, with Adam (Kensei) stalking Hiro through time and among other things mentoring hapless Peter (and possibly, in time, Sylar..who knows?). So yes, this reveal was by far the best thing about this episode, I’m so surprised that the general Heroes community loved this one – are they watching the same show? Are they kidding themselves that this was good TV? Don’t get me wrong, I love the ‘show’, but it’s that appreciation of how good the show ‘can’ be with drives my desire to see the show produce the goods..last night was not ‘the goods’..however it did set-up some tasty future plot-lines. Oh and how over-hyped was the ‘biohazard-Peter’ storyline? They do this every week..stop with the sensationalised NBC advertising - it’s fun at first but when the episode sucks, well it’s not fun at all.

Anyhoo, we can all breathe a sigh of relief as the worst story arc in Heroes history is finally over and now we can get to the good stuff..well, at least until December 3, when Season 2 of Heroes now ends. Bah!

Mini Review “The Kindness of Strangers”

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

OK, so this is only a ‘mini-review’, I’ll post my in-depth review later.

I liked this episode, not quite as much as I loved “Kindred”, but it wasn’t too far off. However this was tinged by a certain Heroes character who by and large gets on my nerves. Enter Claire Bennet or Butler or whatever her name is these days. I mean how selfish is she? She knows that trusting people, who could possibly be out to get her and her family (and there are people out to get her and her family), could result in herself or a family member getting captured or worse – remember Sylar, Claire? Or does your memory also regenerate from scratch?  Anyway, whilst I have warmed slightly – and I mean ‘slightly’ to West, I still don’t trust him, he’s just way too random and those deep eyes of his..scarey. Of there’s more to why I don’t trust him, but hey, i’m feeling superficial. The ‘Hollywood’ moment between him and Claire was cool and cheeseball all at the same time – I didn’t know whether to clap or hurl.

Enough about Claire, lets touch on the other main points of the eppy: Micah’s family seems cool. His brat of a cousin has provided me with more laughs than some of the real Heroes have done for an entire season. Nana’s cool, tho I sense there’s alot more to come from her and of course, Monica Dawson is a kickass character. Whats her power? Like some kinda photo-mimic ability? Eitherway it’s well cool, if a little close to Peter and Sylar’s talents. Also it was good to see the Rey Mysterio and the WWE get a mention, what with them being real-life ‘heroes’ for many.

I LOVE Maya and Alejandro..or maybe I just love Dania Ramirez? Yes, that too, but seriously, those two are excellent characters who’s story I love to watch. It’s a shame that Heroes becomes predictable yet again, with Sylar just happening to pop up randomly (at Least LOST ‘explains’ it’s coincidences or offers a framework for them), but still, it was cool to have the Symaster back in action. For a moment I thought he was a bad boy turned good, but as the scene played out, he’s just rediscovering his own bad boy ways – hey, he’s TV’s best out and out villain, you gotta love him!

Nathan’s face turned ugly again – hope they expediate that story cos I’m losing interest (I thought Heroes delivered rapid answers??). Ma Petrelli the sacrificial lamb? Well I never, life is full of surprises! Of course, the look on her stony face as she was being carted away told another story, however.

No Peter (BOO!), No Niki (Meh) and no Hiro and Kensei (Meh).

As I said, this was a good episode, but just like LOST experienced, the 2nd season is always a tough one. I just feel that something or someone is missing (no, not D.L.). In saying that, perhaps we need some more Linderman or Claude-type characters?..rogues who give the show another dimension.

Almost forgot – the ending was way cool! Is Molly trapped in a nightmare with Parkman’s dad!?? Please let it be so, if only because THAT would be a cool thing to see unravel!

Episode 2.03 “Kindred” Review

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Peter in trouble

NBC went over board with “The Box..The Box” trailer for this episode, and it would appear that the excitement spread to Peter as he demands “Just tell me what I have to do to get my life back”. That’s funny, the last time I checked a whole life can’t fit inside of a little box. Of course the head Irish gangster wants him to pay his debt for being chained inside the bigger box and saving his sister from getting raped – that’s gratitude for you Peter! Peter agrees but his trustworthiness is placed in doubt after his Parkman borrowed mind reading power over hears another member of the gang planning to screw head boss guy over for the money. But hey, he’s family, he wouldn’t screw head boss guy over, right? Shame on you Peter!

Alejandro gets caught

Maya and Alejandro, bless em, continue their mission to get to America – I hope they know the streets aren’t paved with gold..well, unless Bob Midas is in town. Anyway, Alejandro being the genius that he is, decides to thief a set of wheels..wait for it..IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! They get spotted by police and Alejandro gets caught. Darn, stealing cars ain’t like it used to be!

RIP D.L.

Micah and Nikki make their long awaited return, and the worst kept secret is finally out – D.L. is dead. Never saw that coming! But it appears that Micah will lose more than just his father as Nikki leaves him with his grandma in the hope of getting ‘cured’ by Bob Midas and the Company. Wait, so does she have the virus or is she just tired of Jessica’s ways? I heard she always leaves the seat up and puts the peanut butter in the fridge! No wonder Nikki’s had enough!

Ouchy!

Guess..Who’s..Back…!? Erm, Sylar? Yes, thank you for the hype NBC, but Sylar needs no hype..he’s Sylar! So he’s on a beach in Maui with Candice..who I thought died back in season 1? Wait, didn’t Sylar also die? Of course he didn’t..rule number 1, unless you SEE a person die, then the chances are they’re alive – see Peter and Nathan. Oh scrap that D.L. died and we didn’t even get to say goodbye. Anyway, back to Sylar, he’s not really on a sunny beach, it’s just one of Candice’ illusion tricks. He’s actually on a bed with his Kidney bleeding out and in total and utter pain. He soon finds out that he has no power – Dammit, I loved when he used to be able to move teacups with just his mind, it was the highlight of any episode! Sylar isn’t happy, Candice who is presumably working for the Company, tells him that he’ll be able to re-acquire his abilities once he gets better. Patience was never one of Sylar’s strong points, and he soon bashes Candice over the head in order to retrieve her power. Oh Sylar, you are clever!

Claire spends the episode moaning and growning at Noah..then at West, for spying on her cutting off her Pinky. Y’know you could’ve been doing more embarrassing things at that moment Claire..count yourself lucky! West isn’t in the least bit sorry and teases her in class by insinuating that she’s a Lizard-girl. Ouch..not nice West..not nice. Go on, make it up to he by taking her for a free flying lesson.

Mohinder comes home to Molly’s delight and Parkman’s concern. Those two sure do make a great couple - Who’s turn is it to wash the dishes by the way? Hiro risks breaking the Space-Time Continuum by leaving a message for Ando. Whilst he uses Kensei’s regeneration as a way of making him into a true Hero. AT LAST, the swine is gone and we now have a semi-decent character on our hands. It’s amazing what killing 90 odd people in battle can do for a man, huh Kensei? So, the Kensei (the real one, not Hiro) gets the girl, but Hiro is jealous and can’t bring himself to leave just yet. Hiro, you do realise that you risk ‘breaking history’ don’t you?

Lightening!

Hey, what about Peter? Well, he’s busy practising his “Hadoken” fireballs and Telekinesis..he even takes his shirt off for full effect, but alas, he just cannot seem to make it work. That is until he’s in the moment and successfully helps the mobsters to rob the betting shop. Maybe some day he’ll master how to use his abilities at will? Maybe some day he’ll actually open the box that NBC hyped us all about? I mean come on Peter, is your life REALLY all that great at the moment? Sure you got a kiss and you got beer on tap, but you’ve committed a crime. The real Peter would never do such a thing! Oh and have you forgotten Simone? She’s only been dead like 5 months and you’re getting jiggy with the sister of a madman who would snap you’re neck if he ever caught you. Oh, wait, you can regenerate..hmm, maybe life isn’t so bad after all. But just for the sake of my own curiosity, please open the darn box!

Noah is Number 8

Bob sets Mohinder up in a brand new laboratory so that he can do all of his sciency stuff. Only he didn’t have the budget to get a brand new place and had to rent Isaac’s old studio instead. I guess that turning spoons to gold thing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, huh Bob? For real tho, Mohinder isn’t too happy about Bob breathing down his neck all of the time, but does manage to find painting number 8, which depicts our very own Noah mangled and dead – so the first is Kaito and the last of the elders to be purged is Noah. At least he has a long wait before it’s his turn. Go on, live life to the full Noah, West, I mean, “The Hooded Guy” will be a while.

Speaking of West, after a kissy-kiss on the beach with Claire, she discovers a marking on his neck, to which he reveals was put their by an evil man with Horned Rimmed Glasses. Oh the coincidence, huh! Please, if you can’t trust your father, you certainly can’t trust West! Sure, HRG may have experimented on him, but West pushed Kaito off the building!

Alejandro absorbs Maya’s power

Back to Maya..Ahh, beautiful Maya..apart from when she has blood gushing from her eye’s. Oh look, she has blood gushing from her eyes, as she kills the guards and breaks Alejandro out of prison. Alejandro being the stand up guy that he is, reverts her doings and revives the guards and his fellow prisoner, as the three of them escape. Before was an accident, but this time Maya consciously used her ability to kill those men..has she crossed the line this time? This certainly paints a different picture of her!

Oh, and Sylar discovers that he still has no powers. Poor Candice, her death was in vein. However, I don’t think Sylar will be powerless for too long. After all, he’s Sylar!

So as Noah stares at an image of his own future death, Claire snoops on him through the blinds..it’s seems that West has rubbed off on her. Tut. Notice in the corner of the painting Claire is kissing someone..that someone being West, I’d imagine..there..proof that West is “The Hooded Guy”..why else would he be in that painting!?

All in all this was the best episode of the first 3, Heroes is finally living up to the hype!

Heroes Episode Review: “Lizards” (2.02)

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Another good episode, not as strong or as exciting as last weeks, but it was good enough. My favourite parts involved Claire’s story – the whole lizard/regeneration aspect was well done and is quite fascinating really – I like when Heroes uses ‘science’. However, the scene with her chopping off her Pinkie was SO made specifically for those trailers and promos!

“Haduuken!” - Peter displays his power

I also enjoyed seeing more of Peter’s story and his new collection of powers..by my count that’s now FOUR ‘new’ abilities that he’s acquired since 1.23 – ‘Phasing’ from D.L, ‘Super-Strength from Jessica, ‘Telekinesis’ from Sylar and his Ryu/Ken-like ‘Hadoken’ fireball..from..God knows who!?

Hiro as Kensei

The episode wasn’t ‘great’ – Hiro’s story is struggling when I compare it to how much it promised back in May – though it was cool to see him masquerade as Kensei and it was neat to see that Kensei does have a power after all – regeneration..or rebirth, take your pick. I’d go for regeneration, since the episode is titled ‘Lizards’.

Yet again there was no Sylar..this is bad..very very bad! Are they trying to tease us or something!? ..Ah well, I suppose it will be worth the wait.

Maya & Alejandro

As for stand-out story arc, it simply has to be Maya and Alejandro – by FAR the best and most interesting characters in season 2 thus far!

All in all I’d give this episode a 7/10 ..it just didn’t have that ‘magic’ or promise like last weeks did, but it progressed the story well enough to tide me over til next week.

What did YOU think of this episode? Feel free to vote in the poll:

Heroes Review – 2.01 “Four Months Later”

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

So Heroes is back and boy is it back in style! I really needed an episode like that to remind why I like this show, because there’s times when I began to forget. But that’s all in the past now!

Alejandro & Maya Make a deal they will come to regret

I thought they re-introduced us to the show with silky transition and it made for engrossing and  intriguing viewing. Special mention has to go to the characters of Maya and Alejandro, because unlike LOST’s Paulo and Nikki, they were introduced to us in superb fashion. Right from the get-go I was intrigued by the pair and it wasn’t long before I became heavily invested in their story. It would appear that the twins need to stay together so that Maya’s abilities (or curse) remain dormant – I mean what a great concept..the idea that Alejandro negates her ability is one which has plenty of legs.

I’m not Claire’s biggest fan but I did enjoy her re-introduction and her journey into being the new kid at ‘Costa Verde’ high school. But more than that I am interested in her relationship with West. It will be interesting to see how that develops – he obviously isn’t shy about using his ability, whilst she has to keep her own even more of a secret. Will she trust him? Can she trust him? Who knows, but it will be interesting finding out of the next few weeks. Oh and man did I love Noah kicking..erm..finger. Nice shout-out to the Randy-Locke story arc in LOST perhaps? Infact whats with the borrowing from LOST – a new south American couple, Parkman in an ‘Exposé-like re-introduction..hmm, Kring..plagerism? Surely not!?

Peter displays new skills

All in all this was a great episode..OK, so we had no Sylar, but I don’t think we’ll have to wait to long before we see him (and the teaser at the start was GREAT!!)! Oh and Peter’s alive too..as if we didn’t know! But wow, I can’t wait to find out more about his ‘new’ ability and who put in him the cargo hold and basically what the heck happened to him!

And what about Hiro and Kensei? I didn’t see that coming – Kensei being ‘English’ (though I knew he wasn’t Asian from the spoilers). I think that story arc has alot of steam and it will be interesting to see where they take it. I thought David Anders was good, but I think he’s got to be careful not to overdo the quirkiness..there were moments where he oversold the whole thing, I think.

I got to give a special mention to the production values in this episode – comparing this to last season (esp the first few) it’s clear that ‘Heroes’ has been given a kitty that ‘Bob’ the gold-making man himself would be proud of. I mean West’s flying visuals was better than anything we saw Nathan do in Season 1. It’s so so lavish and glossy..great stuff, roll on next Monday!

Keep an eye out for my ‘Heroes Clues’, which will include screencaps and analysis of all those important and subtle bits that you may have missed. I should have these done in a couple of hours and will post them up next.

Heroes Re-watch: “Better Halves”

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Better Half?As the title of this episode suggests, this was when things started to come together. The Niki-Jessica-DL  storyline began to develop, Hiro and Ando realised that they needed each other, Mohinder and Eden ‘came together’ despite his departure and Claire gets to meet her not so biological parents.

This was a good episode..it didn’t necessarily blow me away, but it gave the season a greater sense of direction.

One of the best moments has to be when Eden tell’s HRG about Peter being able to fly – “Really? That’s cool”  - and about Isaac’s premonition concerning a cheerleader. The pieces began falling into place - thus giving new meaning to the coined phrase “Everything is connected”, particularly in light of Jessica’s involvement in the Hiro/Ando shootout scene.

Heroes Re-watch: “Hiros”

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Hiro & AndoIs it bad of me that one of my standout moments from this episode was Hiro saying “That hurt more than I thought it would” , after he gets kicked out of the van!? Perhaps it’s just my (strange) sense of humour, but that so cracked me up! As did Ando who took Hiro’s word’s too literally by going to spend time with his ‘stripper girlfriend’..laugh out loud, Ando!

I didn’t learn too much from this episode during this re-watch, but it was great to watch it again nevertheless. One thing which delighted and bugged me was Nathan’s landing (observed by a delighted Hiro)..sure it was a cool scene(!), but surely the soles of his feet literally burn off, leaving him unable to walk for weeks on end?? Heck, he’s not Claire..no regeneration for this Petrelli! Ah well, perhaps i’m being too cynical?..but hey, I love this show and I want it to be as ‘tight’ as possible (plus I dislike Nathan ;)).

Speaking of things that I love..Greg Grundberg..how hard does this guy rock!? As a Big LOST fan it’s such a shame that he got killed so early in that show. Anyway, his portrayal in the convenience store was so on the money – it was great acting and such a well written piece. It really hit home that having his gift ain’t all that..plus it gives him headaches, poor man!

Other moments which I gained further appreciation for was HRG’s little Brody visit – HRG is a difficult man to predict at this stage..every time I think he’s gonna lose his cool, he acts so calm and collected – rather like his plea to Isaac in a few episodes time. But yeah, I have little time for Brody, but what Claire did was still wrong wrong WRONG.

Another great moment was Future-Hiro giving Peter the now overdone “Save the“I’ve got a message for you” cheerleader, save the world” message (Man am I sick of that line, lol) – which played seamlessly with the final scene where Peter tells present-day Hiro that he has a message for him – what a great piece of direction, bravo Kring and co!

So yeah, this was a fine episode..and from what I recall the show really gets started from episode 6 onwards..so let’s roll!

Next episode tomorrow,

Peace:)

Heroes Re-watch: ‘Collision’

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Quite a powerful episode, however I didn’t really notice anything new or come out of it with any new perceptions.

I did however enjoy the opening scene – great choice of music!

I felt yet more contempt towards Simone..I just can’t believe how disconnected she is from the pain that Isaac is going through. Whatsmore I don’t really sense much chemistry between her and Peter. I’m not sure whether it’s down to the acting or the script, but the chemistry between Milo and Tawny is literally non-existent, in my opinion (or perhaps their relationship was all about one thing..and not love as Peter professed it was..?).

Mohinder & EdenActually, one thing which I did notice upon re-watching (and this goes for the previous episodes too), is that Mohinder’s story is ALOT more interesting at this stage than I previously recognised. Along with Peter, his scenes have kept me interested and I feel a greater sense of investment to his character than I did when I first saw these early episodes. Though perhaps Eden’s presence has also helped? You can’t ever have enough Eden! Speaking of Mohinder, it was a great moment when he was trying to inform Nathan of the ‘abilities’ that he might be experiencing, and then the ranting and raving tramp (I assume he was homeless?) walked past - it was like looking in the mirror for Mohinder, because he saw how he must look to Nathan, with all his ‘mad’ theories of human evolution and such. I think this really hurt Mohinder and turned him once again into a hardened cynic..at least until Peter showed up at his door.

Claire’s RevengeThe most memorable scene was when Claire got her revenge on Brody by slamming the car into the wall. I thought that what she did was disgusting – yes, Brody is a **** but ‘an eye for an eye’ mentality can’t work. Whatever happened to the phrase: “With great power, comes great responsibility“? Hmm..but then I guess this is one of the themes of season 1, in that people like Claire didn’t ask for this power and are (at times) simply not ready to use it wisely. At this stage, she is still finding out about herself, let alone this ability that she has, and so morals and ethics don’t really come into it for her yet?..I guess this is a comment from the creators showing us that these people are not perfect and have flaws just like ordinary people. Infact they are ordinary people aren’t they…that’s kinda the point..

So yeah, that was definitely the most interesting part of this episode..like I said i feel for Claire and would never support what Brody did to her, but to attempt to kill the guy when she knew she wouldn’t get hurt..well, it’s a shocking act and one which opens many talking points.

Overall, this was a good episode to re-watch, with some interesting themes coming to the fore.

Oh and Nathan still sucks..:P

Heroes Re-Watch: “One Giant Leap”

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

‘One Giant Leap’ is, in my opinion, without doubt a better episode than ‘Don’t Look Back’, and it’s moments like this which make it so appealing:

There’s Peter, feeling good about himself – and why not, he can fly and he’s got a fairly hot babe digging him. So he’s just told this ‘babe’ that he fell in love with her the moment he laid eye’s on her..and what does Nathan go and do..yup, he announces to the world that Peter is suicidal! Erm..nice one bro! Poor Peter..I guess no-one said being a Petrelli was easy..

Speaking of Simone (who is the ‘babe’ in the above paragraph in case anyone is wondering), is it just me who can’t stand this woman!? She knows the pain and suffering that Isaac is going through and yet she let’s him stew and not only flirts with Peter, but kisses him (and that’s just the start). Poor Isaac..his love is so wasted on her, in my humble opinion.

Cheers!

Speaking of love, it was quite funny seeing Matt getting effectively booted out of his own home by his wife. But what I don’t understand, is why instead of using his powers to cheat at poker or something fun (like Hiro and Ando), he goes to a bars, reads the minds of the drunk and raises glasses to fellow losers? Whats up with that Matt(!?)..it’s not like you’re not above using your powers for personal gain.

Something else which kinda bugged me about this episode (in retrospect), was his encounter with Sylar. Now after he put several bullets in Mr. Elusive, why did the creators make it look as if Sylar escaped by flight or some-kind of Spiderman climbing ability, when we later (in the series) see no other reference to ‘this’ particular ability – including in situations where it would be advantageous for him to use it? I mean, Matt turned his head for a second and before we know it Sylar’s scaled a building and disappeared. It would seem to me that they either didn’t exactly ‘know’ what to make Sylar or they changed his story arc somewhat, because there are also more ‘continuity’ issues which later appear.

Speaking of continuity, they definitely changed their plan for DL’s mom – in this episode they built her up with strong screen direction which appeared to be heading somewhere only to never again come back to her. Unless we catch-up with her in Season 2, of course).

I think all this indicates that once they realised how big the show actually was, they altered things slightly (from around episode 6 or 7 i’d say).

“Forgive Me”

I’m being a bit critical here, but I actually did enjoy this episode. One of my favourite parts was Mohinder and Eden coming across Sylar’s hidden room, which had ‘Forgive Me Father’ etc written all over the walls. Question – were they planning on making Sylar a religious man? I only ask because we see little indication of religion or faith in Sylar in the whole of Season 1. Though I should point out that his mother was religious, so perhaps this was more an indication of him letting go of her hold on him and the values that ‘she’ had instilled in him. I guess this could be our first foreshadowed pointer of ‘Gabriel Grey’ becoming ‘Sylar’. Or, it’s another continuity error ;)

Babe Alert!

I can’t end without saying how Hot Eden is. Yes, this deserves a paragraph all of it’s own :)

I realise that I’ve hardly mentioned Hiro and Ando in any of my re-watch items so far, but i’ll address that by saying how utterly fantastic the scene where he stopped time to save the little girl was! Man, that is what I’m talking about – it was the sort of scene that makes Heroes so darn cool. It was also great seeing Ando begin to believe in Hiro’s ‘space-time continuum’ bending lark. Always nice to see a cynic believe.

“Holy Shii..”

I’m not Claire’s biggest fan, but I so wanted her to kick that Brody’s butt! What a SCUM BAG he is! The thing is his nice guy act was so convincing, poor Claire – thank goodness she can regenerate though, because she doesn’t half get killed alot all of a sudden (and that’s not including her intentional suicide leaps!). I have to give it to Hayden, her episode stealing “Holy Shii..” was just classic..bravo bravo!

Heroes Season 1 Re-watch – “Don’t Look Back”

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

YATTA!

Not one of my favourite episodes, however it was brilliantly opened by the ever exuberant Hiro.

I couldn’t help but notice just how stroppy Claire is. She just doesn’t seem like a pleasant person to be around, even at this stage – I know alot of people will disagree with me on that, but hey, that’s my opinion. In saying that it was nice to see her joy at having saved the man from the wreckage, even though she didn’t get the credit for it. Though the fact that she is virtually indestructible does make me question whether her ‘bravery’ is all that it’s cracked up to be? Surely someone like Ando or even someone with abilities like Hiro is more brave than Claire is? Anyway, I guess i’ll touch on that some more another day.

Another episode, another great performance by Milo – I’m just so invested in Peter’s story at this stage. I liked how his drawing included the symbol that we later come to see much much more of (nice touch and once again, this suggests that he has some sort of pre-cog..perhaps gained from Isaac via Simone, seeing as Isaac’s paintings feature the same symbol in this episode). I should note that we also see the symbol in the swimming pool later on in this episode. It was also nice to see Ma Petrelli tell Peter that he’s her favourite – hey, I can’t stand the woman, but it was a nice moment and Peter needed to hear that. Oh, and I still can’t stand Nathan..what a jerk.

Nikki’s story becomes really interesting in this episode and I am a big fan of the way Ali Larter switches between ‘Nikki’ and her alter ego.

I’m also a big fan of Eden..I mean how HOT is she, seriously! She also has great chemistry with Mohinder, who really begins to come into his own in this episode. I can’t remember whether I originally suspected Eden as being a mole, but looking back, she really does a good job and is very convincing – this all makes sense later of course.

Matt was good in this episode, as ever Grundberg does a good job in portraying his powers. It was good to have Sylar mentioned in this episode, it’s weird to think that we wont actually see the guy properly for a good few episodes yet. I guess this is part of the reason why he made such a big impact on the rest of the season.

Perhaps the best moment of this episode was when Peter flies..or rather, floats – that was such a cool way to have him (begin to) realise his potential..partly cos it stuck it to Nathan too. Ha!

All in all this was a decent episode, again, not one of my favourites but it was good to watch it again.

Roll on episode 3!
