Lightening!

TV Guide report that NBC’s spin-off show ‘Heroes: Origins’ has been scrapped due to the pending writers strike:

NBC has pulled the plug on Heroes: Origins, the Heroes spin-off that was slated to run next April. The network declined comment, but sources said the possible strike by the Writers Guild of America — which could happen after the guild’s contract expires midnight Thursday — played a role in the decision.“Looking at everything in context of the strike, we’re evaluating all of our production commitments,” said one insider. “Scripts haven’t been written yet.”Origins was designed to provide fans with six episodes of a fresh Heroes-related show in place of repeats in the spring. If the labor situation changes quickly, the network could revisit the decision to scrap the show.

Heroes-Hype! News

As I mentioned last week, G4 have acquired Heroes. On Saturday, November 3rd, all episodes from the second season will be shown. Then, at 11 pm EST G4 will begin a weekly segment called the “Heroes Post Show”. The Post Show will air new content, new interviews, new cast and crew members, and plenty more, all on a weekly basis.

Our friend Ryan over at Heroes Wiki will be one of the hosts of the show. People interested in viewing a taping of the show in Southern California can contact him using this link. There’s also opportunities for fans to take part in a mobile way, which you can read about at Heroes Wiki.

Good luck with the show Ryan!

‘Origins’ Drops it’s Name & Elle’s Bells

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Kristen Bell is ‘Elle’
The Watcher reports that the Heroes spin off series ‘Heroes: Origins’ will lose it’s name:

It was titled “Heroes: Origins,” but it will no longer be called that. A representative for the network said that a title for the new series had not been chosen yet.

The Watcher also has some spoilery stuff on new ‘Hero’, Elle, who is played by Kristen Bell. Elle will make her debut in this coming Mondays “Fight or Flight”episode and it is believed that she is connected to the company – in fact she was raised by them. She also has links to Peter, who she is looking for, and H.R.G and Claire – who she has a ‘special’ relationship with (Sister, anyone?). Whilst many of our Heroes (Sylar aside) struggle with the morality issues and the power that their abilities give them, Elle is more than happy to use hers. She is also believed to be behind Peter’s recent memory loss.

It all sounds very interesting, basically she sounds like the crazy female version of Sylar, only more jovial. Read more here.

Heroes-Hype! News

Claire Butler

Whilst Heroes returned with a bang on Monday night, it’s viewing figures of around 14million, whilst steady, was not the boom in viewership NBC was hoping for. E! Online has more:

NBC’s Heroeswas the night’s highest-rated show among 18- to 49-year-olds who don’t particularly care if Marie Osmond can fox-trot or not. But audience-wise, the show failed to build on its first-season buzz. Monday’s opener was no bigger than its first-season premiere: an estimated 14.1 million viewers.

Publicly, NBC was upbeat about the show’s premiere. But its atypical request of Nielsen seemed to speak louder than its press release.

NBC has asked the ratings service to hold off on compiling final numbers for Heroesuntil the network reairs the premiere on Saturday night, Nielsen confirmed Tuesday.

A “newish” rule, dating back to 2006, allows networks to combine a show’s ratings from multiple broadcasts, as long as the same commercials are aired each time, Nielsen Media Research’s Gary Holmes said.

As a result, barring a Saturday-night blackout across the nation, Heroes will not go down in the books as having run even with its first-season premiere; it’ll go down as averaging more—thanks to people who tuned in on Monday, plus however many million tune in over the weekend.

Holmes said he believes at least one other broadcast network has taken advantage of the double-your-fun rule. As to whether it’ll become a numbers-crunching trend, he said, “I think it’ll depend on how the industry reacts to this.”

According to an NBC spokesperson, the Nielsen loophole likely will be used sparingly because of the commercial sponsorship rule. Monday’s Heroes‘ was a candidate for it because the show aired with limited commercials supplied by one sponsor, Nissan, who also signed on for Saturday.

Per the network spokesperson, NBC decided to combine Heroes‘ Monday and Saturday numbers before the Monday numbers were released.

Has Heroes reached the tipping point? Has it hit it’s head on the ceiling of no return? This second season will be very important for Heroes as second seasons are usually some of the most difficult.

Tarantino Gives ‘Heroes’ The Finger

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

Quentin Tarantino has apparently spurned a chance to direct an episode of Heroes - infact the geeky “Deathproof” director doesn’t even know what Heroes is:

Tarantino has turned down an offer to direct an episode of the hit NBC drama Heroes. His reason? He doesn’t know what Heroes is. QT told The Sun, “They were trying to get me to do one. I haven’t even seen the f***ing show. What the f*** is Heroes?”

Good to know that Quentin keeps his ear to the ground. At least he knows what CSI is, huh.
