Heroes Season 3 Spoilers: The Fate of The 3

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Warning: Possible Spoilers ahead.

OK, so you’ve seen the season finale, right? If so, you know that the lives of three Heroes are in the balance. But who dies and who survives, THAT is the question. Kristen from E! Online thinks she might have an idea of how things might shake up:

NIKI:

Ali Larter:  According to Heroes insiders, Niki is not expected to return to the show. But her devilish alter ego, Jessica? Oh yeah, we’ll see her as soon as the show comes back to the beloved airwaves—when the strike is through! At least, that’s the plan according to sources who tell me producers had “done all they could do” with Niki. Micah is not gonna be happy. But at least he’ll have Monica…

ADAM/KENSEI:

David Anders:  I’d bet my beloved, signed Hiro poster that Hiro’s sworn nemesis will return. (I’ve seen that ’90s flick The Vanishingand know people can be dug up after being buried alive! Maybe we can even get Kiefer Sutherland to do the digging!) Sources tell me it’s not set in stone, but the tentative plan is for Adam Monroe to be back to torment our favorite squinty teleporter—i.e., the “carp.” Here’s hoping he does.

NATHAN:

Adrian Pasdar:  I’ve heard the production and writing staff is somewhat split as to whether Nathan should return to the show. Allow me to be the first to say WTF? Heroes without the brothers would be like Prison Break or Brothers & Sisters without the brothers: a waste of time! Surely Claire’s blood can save her own father, right?! Let’s say a little prayer for the older Petrelli, shall we?

——-

Personally I think they should ditch Niki – she was FAR better in Season 2, and it’s clear that they have no more story left for her – heck, why not kill her off at the end of Season 1 with D.L.?? Whilst they’re at it, PLEASE find a way for get rid of Monica..please?? I hope that Adam survives, his character has slightly redeemed himself after a God-awful ‘Feudal Japan’ arc – surely their are better and more effective ways to navigate to a ‘pay-off’? As for Nathan, well he’s still an interesting character and so I hope he lives – let’s face it, how can he not, considering Peter knows about the wonderful healing properties of Claire’s blood. Unless Kring has written himself into another plot-hole on par with Peter not having the sense to simply WALK THROUGH THE VAULT in order to get the virus (DUH!). Let’s hope that whoever dies and whoever lives, the Heroes producers and writers do not belittle our intelligence. I’m a Heroes fan but I’m from the LOST school, and never have they insulted my intelligence, as much has Heroes!

Kensei: A Disappointment?

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Kensei: A Let down?A section of the Heroes community have expressed their disappointment over Takezo Kensei’s character. His reveal was one of the most anticipated throughout the summer, however so far he seems to have not only been an anti-climax to Hiro, but also to a lot of you out there. Personally I wasn’t too impressed with him, but I wouldn’t write him off yet because often true heroes are not born, but through there experiences and interactions they make brave choices and find their way – this could be the case for Kensei.

But what do YOU think? Feel free to vote on the poll:

The Seven Mysteries of ‘Four Months Later’

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Ok, so Four Months Later was awesome, right? I’ve almost lost count of the number of major talking points and mysteries..so I’ve compiled a list of what I think are the most important and intriguing mysteries raised from the episode and I’ve put them in a poll:

Mystery #1: Who is ‘The Hood Guy’?

“The Hooded Guy”

This one has fans across the Interweb speculating like there’s no tomorrow! Fans have dubbed this person “The Hooded Guy” – but is it even a ‘guy’? Could it perhaps be a woman? Maybe it’s someone we’ve already seen from last season? Hmm..it’s a mystery all right!

Mystery #2 Can he be trusted? Can he turn a person to Gold?

Midas Touch

Dubbed “Midas Man” by fans, just what is the true nature of his power..could he turn a human into Gold!? And most importantly, can he be trusted?

Mystery #3 Nathan’s Reflection

Nathan’s reflection

Another shocker! Nathan sees a slightly deformed image of himself when he looked in the mirror. Is this psychological trauma? Does it have anything to do with the explosion? Or is it related to the virus? This one will run and run..

Mystery #4 Will Kaito Live?

Will Kaito Live?

Surely Kaito can’t die..not yet?

Mystery #5 Where’s has Peter been/Nature of his new powers?

Where’s Peter Been?

Peter has a brand new ability and he doesn’t appear to know who or where he is! What is going on with the fans favourite!??

Mystery #6 The nature of Maya’s power?

Gift or Curse?

Perhaps the most tragic ability that we have seen so far – Without her brother Alejandro, Maya seems unable to prevent the death of those around her..but why does her power affect others like this and why do they bleed from the eyes?

Mystery #7 Can West be trusted?

Can West be trusted?

West seems a bit too pushy for some peoples liking..whatsmore you don’t spy on a girl when she’s in her room! What do you think? Can he be trusted..or does he work for the company??

George Takei: Cult Icon

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

George TakeiDigital Spy have  named actor George Takei, who portrays Kaito Nakamura in Heroes, as their latest Cult Icon. In particular they laud him for his characters ‘long con’ and swordsmanship.

Okay, so perhaps Mr Sulu is deserving of his own Cult Spy Icon recognition, but that time will just have to wait! For actor George Takei’s performance on Heroes is simply too legendary to ignore

At first he’s introduced to us as a strict businessman, trying to coax his son back to the family business in Japan with some misguided intentions. Alas, Hiro tricks him into giving his brainiac sister the job instead and the family issue is seemingly solved so the cheerful tourist can continue on his mission.

But – it was all a big con from Kaito! The clever swine is soon seen in flashback in the company of Mr Bennet and Thompson, linking him to the creepy organisation that lies behind Primatech Paper.

So with revelations that make Keyser Soze weep, Kaito Nakamura has defied typecasting, age and his initial characterisation to become a true legend. Here’s hoping he’s back for the second season of Heroes, if only to show us that he’s actually a skilled ballet dancer…

A well deserved award methinks. of course it’s not a ‘real’ award, but it’s a nice acknowledgement for the Startrek and Heroes icon.

Fan Alienation & BBC Boss Delighted with Heroes

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

HeroesBuddy TV report on the fact that some of our ‘Heroes’ have pulled out of fan conventions and the potential alienation of the fans which have made the show a success.

As Heroes second season approaches, criticism has begun to bubble up from television critics that the focus on brand and sponsorship has been alienating to fans of the story. While Heroes established itself as a hit, the empire of secondary business almost entirely relies on continued success in its time slot when the series returns.

The natural comparison in brand growth is Lost. Lost had similar, albeit superior, first season success but took a much slower approach to brand expansion. Lost’s success, as a brand, however is bolstered by an ever present organic connection with its fan community.

Ditching the chance to mingle with fans on their own turf due to the rigors of a corporate sponsored red carpet tour may not be a helpful way for Heroes to maintain its fan friendly persona.

Some valid points there – ‘Lost’(for example) expanded it’s franchise much slower. Infact ‘Heroes’does seem to be forcing it somewhat. I think they’d be better of allowing the show to grow organically, though to their credit they do seem to interact with the fans on a regular basis. It’s just that it’s a fine line and they could do alot worse than follow Lost’s ‘organic’ lead.

In other news - the boss of the UK’s BBC2 speaks of his delight at ‘Heroes’ filling the void that shows such as ‘Quantum Leap’ and ‘X-Files’ have vacated.

“BBC Two bides its time with acquisitions,” Keating explained. “We never depend on them. But Heroes – that’s the one.

“I love it. It’s a very broad, smart, intelligent piece of American television you can build on. You can bring programmes around it. It brings a great dose of smart fiction into the schedule.”

When asked what specifically about the show is quintessentially BBC Two, Keating explained: “Heroes fills a missing part of Two’s brand. BBC Two used to have Quantum Leap, it used to have X Files. Heroes forms part of a well-balanced, smart schedule.”

Too Fast Too Soon For Heroes?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

There’s an interesting Heroes article over at boston.com. They ask whether the show is growing too fast and whether it is deserving of it’s acclaim.

As the fall TV season approaches, and we wonder which series will shame themselves, “Heroes” is looking increasingly like a prime suspect. Since the Monday night show is NBC’s only newish non-reality hit, the network and Kring have spent the summer heaping tacky expansion gimmicks onto it with abandon. “Heroes” has been turned into a relentless and tiresome source of merchandising, casting, and spinoff hype — hype about how the show will grow as a product, not media-generated hype about how good it is.

To me, it’s as if NBC is pressing “Heroes” into child labor. The network is working the show like a mature blockbuster — on the order of “CSI” or “Lost” — too soon. Underneath all the great expectations, there is just a wee sci-fi TV series whose unformed back is carrying too much weight.

It’s an interesting question and one which many Heroes fans will not like to consider, but I can see where they’re coming from. However, despite the hype surrounding the show, we must surely wait to see the contents of season 2 before we criticize the merchandising and marketing too harshly?

Every week, it seems, NBC releases yet another tidbit of obviously targeted casting news, to reach the cult- and comic-book-minded. The latest name is Kristen Bell (from “Veronica Mars”), who follows David Anders (from “Alias”), Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from “Star Trek”), Dominic Keating (from “Enterprise”), and many others onto the show.

Viewers who’ve watched the series loyally know that if there’s one thing “Heroes” emphatically does not need, it’s more characters

This is one aspect which Ive seen on the forums – the fans, to their credit, are expressing concern over the amount of new cast members. I think that Heroes has to be careful of over-doing it, because even with come and go characters, at the end of the day the fans are already invested in their Peter’s, their Sylar’s and their Hayden’s – it’s a fine balance, but Tim Kring has to get it right, otherwise even the most loyal of fans will start to grumble and potentially tune out.

NBC has also announced “Heroes: Origins,” a six-episode spinoff series that will air during the “Heroes” mid-season hiatus. A spinoff series after a single season? How inflated is that?

The idea of “Origins” — which former NBC chief Kevin Reilly requested as part of an effort to “bulk up” the NBC lineup — makes me cringe. “Origins,” whose premiere will be directed by Kevin Smith, will introduce a new character in each episode, and viewers will get to vote one of them onto “Heroes.” In other words, while “Heroes” was NBC’s only scripted series in the Nielsen top 25, the network will now tack reality-show stratagems onto it. Come on. Let the storytellers — and not the viewers — tell this story.

The timing of Origin’s does seem a bit early, but i suppose by the time we get to May, it wont be too bad. I guess they want to keep the fans involved and so far that’s something they’ve done well.

What Has Become of Nathan?

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Ok, is it really a spoiler to suggest that Nathan might be alive in Season 2? I don’t think so, since we never actually saw them (Nate & Peter) die did we? Anyway, I wont put a spoiler warning on this (although I kinda just did ;)).

Kristin from E! Online has given some insight into what has become of Nathan prior to him going BOOM over New York.

I think I speak for fans everywhere when I say I am offended, disgusted and appalled. Do the higher-ups at NBC and show runner Tim Kring not know that nastying up Pasdar’s gorgeous, chiseled face is akin to throwing bat dooky on Michelangelo’s David? Do they not know this is a Heroic sacrilege of epic proportions that shan’t soon be forgotten by the fans? Are we really expected to watch the best show on television without dreaming of Hiro’s hot biscuit of a “flying man” whisking us away for a gravity-defying rendezvous?

Gotta love her..she makes me laugh..in a good way :D

Heroes Rides Crest of a Wave

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Tim KringHeroes creator Tim Kring and actor Masi Oka(Hiro Nakamura) have vowed that season 2 of Heroes will continue to deliver the suprises that it was famed for in it’s debut season. Kring feels that the show can continue to ride the wave of acclaim that it has garnished saying:

“It’s not pressure to top it, it’s pressure to keep it going. A show like this or this particular show has been defined by its ability to defy your expectations. People want to watch it because they don’t know where it is going to take them. We have extraordinary staff and cast,” said Kring. “We are on a big roll right now.”

Kring also reveals how the character of Hiro nearly never made the show:

“When I read the first draft of the script, the character (Hiro) didn’t actually exist. There were a preponderance of characters that felt these powers were an affliction. The character was created to lighten up the initial script,”

I for one am glad that Hiro made the show. He’s given the show that light and shade that is like the cherry on the icing of a big fat cake. Seriously though, he’s been a great character and it’s strange how sometimes the most important characters are stumbled upon. It was similar to Jack in Lost, where his character was supposed to die in the Pilot – 3 seasons later and he’s still there providing the much needed ying to Jack and Ben’s yang. I wonder whether the character of Kensei will also prove to be an unplanned (if I can say that) success..
